2023 November Voting Information

Boise City Council Districts

In 2020, the Idaho State Legislature passed HB413, which requires municipalities of a certain size to elect city councilmembers by district. Due to this change, all council seats are up for election this year.

Voters will cast a ballot for mayor and one councilmember from their district.

Vote at the Polls

On Election Day

After Redistricting, the district and precinct boundaries got redrawn! While District 16 didn’t change that much, you might be in a new precinct with a new polling location so confirm where you’re going before you vote!

If I request an absentee ballot, can I still vote in person?

  • Yes! If you request an absentee ballot and decide you’d like to vote in person, you can take your ballot into your polling place and they will give you a new ballot to vote there.

How do I return my absentee ballot?

  • You need to sign and seal your ballot envelope before you turn it in!

  • Once you sign and seal your ballot, you can put it in the mail (and get it in as soon as possible - ballots have to be in hand at Ada County Elections by the time the polls close. Ballots postmarked by November 7 will not count if the Elections office doesn’t have them.)

  • If you want to hand-deliver it (or if you run out of time), you can turn it into one of the secure election drop boxes at Ada County Elections on Benjamin, or at the drop boxes outside the City Halls in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Kuna, or Star. Any Ada County voter can turn their ballot in at any of these locations.

Where do I vote on Election Day?

Can I register to vote at the polls?

  • Yes! You will go to the polling place for your precinct and tell them you need to register to vote. You will need to bring a valid photo ID and a proof of residency (like a utility bill).

What do I need to bring to the polls?

  • If you are already registered to vote, you do not need to bring an ID. You can sign an affidavit instead of providing an ID.

  • If you’re not already registered and will be registering at the polls, bring a valid photo ID and proof of residency.

Has the county received my absentee ballot?

When should I expect my ballot?

  • The county has already started mailing absentee ballots! Ballots will be sent out on a rolling basis as you request it through the deadline. You should expect to receive your ballot in 7-10 days after requesting it.
